Material Instinct

Now lets look at the current economic climate and to my own materialistic life style.

I currently strive for a better car, a better house, more disposable income, better clothes - but its very interesting to compare what others had but a few years ago.

Take you parents for example - black & white TV, no remote control, a council house to be proud of, wrangler jeans, a car that started and went somewhere and then got all the way back! The question is - did they try to keep up with the Jones's like every man and their dog tries to do now? and did they find themselves lumbered with the massive debt that everybody seems to carry about with them these days?

Answer is that our parents and those before them, understood a basic principal of making a purchase - you had to save for it. This is a point that has now escaped a whole generation and is now going to haunt them. What save up to buy a car!! what save up to buy a house!! what keep a couple of hundred quid in the Bank!! you must be joking. Not while Edna next door has just moved two street along and has managed to increase the size of her house by 4 square foot to accomodate her D & G collection. Not while Edna next door has just upgraded her Saab to a Saab convertable - how can they do it? how can they afford it? How come we are not as well off as them? we must copy - we must take out more tick - we are sheep!!

You see we have all wanted it, but we're all missing the most important part - QUALITY OF LIFE. This small phrase covers everything you will ever need in life. If you have it cherish it, smoother it, do not let it get away, do not let others prise it away from you - it is thee most valuable possesion you will ever own. At the moment I have it - the challenge is to keep it.

First Post

Well I've finally went and done it, and here we are with a brand new blog site. Having posted various comments on other blog sites and both agreed and disagreed with others points in equal measure, I thought that is was about time I made my points in first, rather than third, hand.

This has been brought about given that I have little more time in the evenings due to the impending arrival of my second child, and the fact that the good lady is in her bed by 9 o'clock each evening owing to tiredness. It is also down to the fact that telly is crap during the summer and that I have broken my wrist - "To the manor born" on Friday night at 8 o'clock - are you joking? - Can't go out on my bike or play fives.

So this is just a short post to get things moving and I look forward to the smiles, the laughter and the disagreements that this site will bring.
